FFC2024 - NEXT - New Vision Statement

As we move forward into a new decade of ministry, we're not just looking at what we dowe're focused on God's desire. Our mission statement reminds us of our identity and purpose as a church: "We're on a mission to love God and love people, making disciples who make a difference." But that mission is driven by a greater vision, a picture of what God is doing through us and in the world around us:

"Our vision is to see people forgiven and set free to flourish in Jesus Christ."

This vision speaks to the heart of our ministry. It reflects not only the personal change we hope to see but also the ways God's grace brings life and healing to every part of our lives. We believe this vision points to both God's glory and the good of the world. Let's explore how this vision comes to life as people experience forgiveness, freedom, and flourishing in Christ.

Forgiven in Christ

At the center of our vision is the forgiveness of sins. Through the cross of Christ, we are reconciled to God, and our sins are fully and completely forgiven. Paul writes in Colossians 1:19-20, "For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross."

This reconciliation is a gift of God's grace. It's not something we can earn. Paul makes this clear in Ephesians 2:8-9: "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." When we receive this forgiveness, we begin the journey of becoming the people God created us to be, freed from the bondage of sin and its controlling influences.

Set Free to Flourish

Our vision is to see people not only forgiven but also set free—free from the power of sin and free to live fully for Christ. Paul continues in Ephesians 2:10: "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

This freedom affects every part of our lives and opens the door for us to flourish. Flourishing means experiencing joy and peace, even when life is hard. It means breaking free from guilt and shame and learning to live in God's grace. It's working through broken relationships to find reconciliation and healing. Flourishing also includes becoming a blessing to others—whether that's in our workplaces, breaking bad habits or addictions, building healthier financial practices, or strengthening our communities. This is part of what Jesus meant when He said, "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10).

Flourishing in Every Part of Life

Howevet, true freedom leads to flourishing—not just for ourselves but for the people around us. When we experience healing and freedom in Christ, it transforms not only our personal lives but also the relationships and communities we're part of. As we live out the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)—it impacts our families, workplaces, churches, and cities in positive, even wondrous, ways.

When people flourish in Christ, it touches every part of life—relationships, homes, jobs, schools, communities, and even entire cultures. Paul speaks of this wide-reaching impact in Colossians 1:6: "This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace." Flourishing means living in the fullness of what God has planned for us, bringing light and hope into every corner of society.

For the Glory of God and the Common Good

Ultimately, this vision is not just about us. It's about God's glory. As people are forgiven, set free, and flourishing, they reflect the beauty and power of the gospel. This is how God is glorified—in lives transformed by His grace and in a world changed by His love.

At the same time, this transformation benefits the world around us. When we flourish in Christ, we become better neighbors, friends, parents, coworkers, and citizens. We contribute to the well-being of those around us, seeking justice, mercy, and peace in our communities. As Jeremiah 29:7 instructs, "Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you...for in its welfare you will find your welfare."

A Vision for the Future

Our vision is not just a statement—it's a prayer. We long to see people forgiven, set free, and flourishing in Jesus Christ. This is the path we're on as a church, and it shapes everything we do. As we step into the NEXT decade, we invite you to join us in living out this vision, trusting that God will do far more than we could ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

Together, let's pursue forgiveness, freedom, and flourishing for the glory of God and the good of the world.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Kevin
