FFC2023 - Prayer for Peace

Our Father, the Creator of All Peoples,

Even as we maintain our deep sorrow over the hatred, injustice, suffering, violence, and wars in many other places worldwide, we turn our eyes with renewed urgency toward our neighbors in Israel, Palestine, and surrounding lands today and in the days ahead. As members of the household of faith, we gaze especially toward our sisters and brothers in Christ throughout these regions and the Middle East. We pray with heavy hearts for them.

Since, as the Holy Spirit taught us through the Apostle Paul, our ultimate battle is not against "flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places," we first ask you to restrain, even repel, the deeper spiritual tides of evil in our time. As followers of Jesus Christ, we also pray that You might graciously:

  • Help us to grow in love for You with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
  • Help us to grow in love for all of our neighbors, even our enemies, as ourselves.
  • Turn us all from our wicked ways, giving us an ever-increasing love for all that glorifies and honors You.
  • Quench within us any impulse toward hatred, malice, and vindictiveness even as we bring workers of iniquity to justice.
  • Empower us to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly before You.
  • Grant us wise and prudent leadership promoting true justice and lasting peace.
  • Heal those bearing the wounds and scars of conflict.
  • Comfort those who grieve otherwise inconsolable loss with the promise of the coming day when you will banish sin and sorrow forever, wiping every tear from our eyes.

However impossible these requests might seem to us today, we trust the words of Christ: "What is impossible with man is possible with God." Lord, we believe. Please help us with our unbelief.
