Frequently Asked Questions

What do you believe?

Visit the About Us section for out doctrinal beliefs and core values.

What can I expect on Sunday?

Stop by our Fellowship Center before services to enjoy a cup of coffee, a bite to eat, and friendly conversation. Worship services are upbeat, blending traditional and contemporary music. Preaching is centered on applying the timeless truths of the Bible to practical living today. Communion is celebrated on the 3rd weekend of the month, open to anyone who confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Where can I fit in?

Weekend services are the door into life at First Free. On Sunday mornings, we offer Sunday Schools and Adult Bible Fellowships to serve a smaller "congregation" and allow for relationship building.

Check out the Connected section to learn about our different ministries, where you fit it, and opportunities to serve.

What Bible do you use?

We believe in the power of God's living Word today, and use the Bible as the basis of our teaching and preaching. We believe that accurate, modern translations are most helpful for understanding and applying God's truth to life. As such, we don't have one "authorized" Bible translation; depending on who preaches, we will use the NKJV, the NIV, the NAS, or the ESV.

What should I wear?

We want you to be comfortable at First Free. God is most concerned with our hearts as we worship, not so much with our dress. If you like to dress-up, please do. If you want to be casual, come as you are. There is no dress code; we only ask that you be modest and respectful.

Is there interpretation for the hearing impaired?

We offer interpretation at our 10:45 AM Sunday morning worship service each week, as well as special classes.

How did the church begin?

First Evangelical Free Church began over 125 years ago in 1884, so we have a long history in McKeesport, PA. First Free was originally formed by Swedish immigrants to meet the needs of the growing labor force of industry in McKeesport. The church grew for many years in the downtown area on Jenny Lind Street, and moved to its current location in 1967. Since then, continued growth has caused 2 building projects, our current auditorium in 1985, and our Student Center and offices in 1996.

A more detailed version of our history can be found in the About Us section.
