Adult Ministries
Adult Ministries at First Free provide opportunities to foster healthy Christian growth in the men and women of the church. See where you fit in.
Sunday School Classes
Looking to grow deeper and stronger in your knowledge of the Bible? A variety of Adult Sunday School Classes are held each week to help you build a solid foundation of Biblical understanding and provide an opportunity to learn while interacting with others.
Married’s Group
Anyone who is in the child-rearing years (whether you have children or not) is welcome to join the married’s group Bible study/fellowship time (held Sundays at 6:00 PM in the Adult Learning Center). Our verse-by-verse study of Colossians will be flavored with applications for marriage and family.
It is a great time to meet and fellowship with other married couples of various ages in the church. If your spouse cannot attend, unaccompanied spouses are welcome and you will not be alone — others are in the same situation. Children’s and Teen program’s are run simultaneously at the church during this time (6:00 - 7:30 PM).
Grief Share
Have you suffered a significant loss recently? Whether it be a loved one, a job, or a health issue, grief is real and can paralyze us. This group provides a way to meet with others who share some of those life burdens, while learning how God can work through your grief and bring you the strength and comfort you need to find healing and wholeness. This usually meets on Thursday nights.
Deaf Ministry
First Free Church has an active ministry to the hard of hearing and deaf, including interpretation in our Sunday morning 10:45 am service, and a monthly fellowship luncheon. Regular classes are offered to train volunteers to help with our worship service interpretation. We also offer special events for the hard of hearing and deaf (e.g. the Mark Mitchum concert).
12 Step
First Free Church offers a weekly 12-Step class for those who struggle with substance abuse or addictions. The class meets each Sunday morning during our 9:00 hour, except during the summer.
First Place
A Christian-based program for health and wellness, First Place is a way to connect with others who are seeking to honor God by making healthy lifestyle choices. Meets on Monday nights throughout the year.
First Free Bible Institute
The need for Christian growth is always with us. We read from Scripture, Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:18). We are commanded by God to grow in knowledge. As a way to help us at First Free Church do that, we present First Free Bible Institute (FFBI), offering short-term, non-accredited classes for deepening your understanding of the Bible, Christian beliefs, and effective Christian living.
The chance to study, learn, and grow as Christians is a great privilege, and God has ordained the local church to be the place where most training for living and ministry takes place. We believe that every Christian has the ability to learn and grow, and needs to cultivate a Christian mindset for effective living in a non-Christian world.
These classes are for people who are looking to go beyond a Sunday School class. There will be homework, assigned readings, and evaluations of what you’re learning. In that way, FFBI will be more “academic” than other learning times.
We want people who are excited about growing in their faith, and wanting to practice what they learn. Teaching will be interactive, using lecture, discussion, and some small group learning activities. It will be challenging, stimulating, and will make you think!
Classes usually are offered in January-February each year for a 6-week term. There is a nominal cost for class materials plus the cost of the class textbook.
